Learn To Curl (L2C)

Ice time and instruction from experienced curlers!

The Kalamazoo Curling Club offers several types of instructional sessions. We can accommodate anyone! If you have concerns about sliding on the ice, let your instructor know and there are alternative delivery methods.

Event schedule and registration is available at Eventzilla.

You can register as an individual, a couple, or a group. We can handle up to 40 people in one class! Groups of 4 or 8 split directly into teams. If your group has 3, 9 or any odd number, that's okay as we will team you up with others!

The Kalamazoo Curling club offers several ways to learn how to curl.

We offer 2 hour learn to curl classes where you can get a taste of curling and learn some basics.

  • We have learn to curl events through-out the curling season (October - March).
  • We will have our calendar for next season's events in the early fall.

Multi-week curling academies. These include three instructional sessions that give you an in-depth look at curling.

  • Day 1 will teach you the basics, how to throw and sweep.
  • Day 2 we will go over game progression and strategy
  • Day 3 it’s GAME ON against the others in your class.

AFTER YOU REGISTER

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
  • Bring a separate pair of clean rubber soled shoes to wear on the ice.
  • Wear warm loose-fit clothing (jeans are not recommended). Layering is your friend.
  • Traditional curling requires sliding in a lunge position (see below). If you cannot do this, don't worry. Curling is for everybody and there are alternative delivery methods.

  • We provide everything else you'll need to curl!

YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Hello! Thank you for your interest in curling at the Kalamazoo Curling Club! Lindsey and Ian Stall are head coordinators and instructors for Learn-to-Curl events. Both Lindsey and Ian are extremely passionate about curling, possess a wealth of curling knowledge, and absolutely love teaching new curlers.

Lindsey comes into the 2024 season with 2-3 years of curling experience. She began curling with the Long Island Curling Club in 2017, and is also a co-founder for the Loggerhead Curling Club in Palm Beach, Florida. One of Lindsey's favorite things to do is teach learn-to-curls and see the smiling faces of those curling for the first time. Her motto is "Anyone Can Curl!" - it doesn't matter if you are young or old, she will make sure you are having the best time ever!

Ian is entering his 17th season as an active curler. He started curling as a 10 year old with the Milwaukee Curling Club and has stuck with it (on & off) since 1999. Like Lindsey, Ian also believes that anyone can curl, and he is extremely knowledgeable about the sport - the strategy and physics of the game, the game rules, the positions, and all of the other nuances in between. If you are struggling or have loads of questions, Ian is there to help.

Lindsey and Ian's primary focus is making sure you are both safe and having a great time curling on our ice. They, and our other volunteers, are eager to meet you and they're looking forward to cheering you on when you go to throw your first stone. Thank you again for your interest in our Learn-to-Curl events and we can't wait to see you on the ice! Good Curling!
